La Mama Cantata is going on tour!

Funding is a bit tight, but this is going to be a SICK opportunity once this happens. You can secure your tickets to see the play when we get back (post jet-lag)  AND share a beer with me at the after party! Click the title of the blog post to check it out.

If we make funding, I’ll actually be able to pay rent for the month of September on purely musical standards, which is a HUGE goal to meet as a recent college grad.

Things I Must Do To Get Myself Back Together:

  • Get my room cleaned up. (It seems to reflect the mental state I’m in.)
  • Get rid of the excess crap I have in my room/desk/fridge.
  • Gain consistency in everyday things. Pens, wake up time, food, blank paper, etc.
  • Take better care of myself. Not just eating healthy, but spending time making myself feel good.
  • Organize my schedule on something visual, rather than keep track of appointments mentally.
  • Budget my money better so I grab beers with those whom I respect. (It’s amazing how productive grabbing a beer with your peers can be.)
  • Invest in books. Novels, autobiographies, reference books, books with pictures. Anything and everything can be inspiration.

The point of all this? I’m a mess. In fact, everything is a mess. I’ve been in this borderline cold for about a month, and it’s coming from a mix of both my physical and mental state. No more cold, no more mess. I would rather have something to talk about. Thank you.

Some Days Are Better Than Others

and today was a pretty bad day. (productively speaking. I thoroughly enjoyed my day today. Though the non-productive-tryptophan is setting in right about now.)

Though I had a big inspired rant about my life, it seems like I didn’t follow through today. So here it is. Present me telling future me what to do:

  • You (me) wil wake up at 8:30.
  • You (me) will not hit the snooze button, wake up, take a shower, check email THEN make cereal.
  • I (you) will be at school at 10/10:30.
  • You (I) will practice drums first, then move to the lab to write on Sibelius (before Arranging class at 1).
  • Eric (me), you (I) will do this all while wearing a tie because you are going to see Phillip Glass’ Premier of his newest symphony at Carnegie Hall Tomorrow. (cue freak out)

Okay, I haven’t hit desperate measures, but I think in two days I will enact The Sacrifice. The Sacrifice is a simple idea. What happens is, I give up something until I accomplish something. (I did this with college applications both years.) It’s under further review, but this years The Sacrifice is shaping up to look like this (note that these are unofficial, I’ll make a big thing once it is decided):

  • Im not allowed to drink until I have the first piece of music completely written for my senior recital. (Please note this is under review)
  • I’m not allowed to eat candy until my senior recital is finished. (I might add soda to this.)

IT IS LAW. (potentially)

On a happier note, lots of music is going to be seen this week. Tomorrow is Philip Glass, Wednesday my friends dad Joe Henry is playing, and Friday is Mark Guiliana and Brad Mehldau duo at Smoke.

Here we go.

(P.S. a note to future Eric: don’t ever do yoga an hour and a half before you go to bed. Just don’t.)
