My friend Tom is featured here on The New School Radio. Not sure if the audio is working so here’s the hard link:  http://wnsr.parsons.edu/2012/05/24/amplified-friends-episode-2-tom-csatari/

I’m headed on a small tour to play at the Upstairs in Montreal, as well as a few other places in VT. Planning this tour is difficult (stupid workers permits) but it’s going to be such a great time on the road with my three great friends.

Check out his (Tom Csatari) tunes on the link. I play drums on the ones that sound like it was recorded in a gym. (Because that live recording practically was, we’re in the process of trying to find out how to get better recordings of ourselves).

On top of that, I’m thinking about heading to Seattle for a week or two. Maybe even LA. We’ll have to see about that.

NEW COMPOSITION ALERT!

I wrote this piece for my Composers Forum class, and this is the first time anyone ever played it, but I must say that I am happy with the way it turned out.

What I did for this was influenced by some of Billy Martin’s drum master classes. I had the whole ensemble be locked into tempo which is defined by the rhythm section, and I wrote out around 20-25 musical chunks. Some lasting one measure, some lasting five beats, some are all triplets, some are eighth notes, some have longer phrases etc. The whole piece lasts around 5 minutes., and slowly get’s more dissonant. Err, just out of the key of C major. (no reference to Terry Riley I swear, it’s just a nice sounding key!) It’s totally conceptual, but I’m happy with the way these guys played it.
